Situated on the outskirts of Bradley near Skipton, the garden at 1 Lane Top is set in glorious countryside. There are wonderful views from parts of the garden, but also secluded areas with structure from hedging and trees, creating shelter and a microclimate. 1 Lane Top is a country garden with cottage style planting, box topiary gardens and wilder areas. Hedging and trees provide valuable wildlife habitats and we don’t use insecticides, herbicides or other harmful products.
I believe gardens are always evolving and are a ‘work in progress’. Over recent years we have created a cutting garden, which has developed into a French style potager garden, where vegetables are grown alongside flowers. We are currently building a Victorian style greenhouse and a summerhouse, which will be positioned to take in the lovely views. With wildlife in mind, we are also adding water features to the garden.
We welcome visitors to the garden. In 2018 I was delighted to welcome Alan Titchmarsh and film crew from ITV’s Love Your Garden programme. The garden was filmed as inspiration for a garden they were creating in the local area.
This year the garden was open for charity on Sunday 9 July. The weather was amazing until our visitors had gone, when there was a torrential thunderstorm! That afternoon we raised over £700 for our charities and I would like to thank visitors for their generosity and our wonderful helpers who baked delicious cakes and provided refreshments.
Dates for open gardens in 2024 will be announced on the Website, Instagram and Facebook. The garden is also open by arrangement on other occasions – please get in touch if you are interested in booking a visit.
The garden is a rich source of plant material for the floristry workshops held here. From foliage in the winter months for wreath workshops, to flowers including tulips, daffodils and blossom, sweet peas, herbaceous perennials, annuals and dahlias. See the Workshop page for available classes.
